I‘m not big a fan of bottled water, but we drink it anyway because our tap water is so horrible; it has floaties in it and smells like a swimming pool.  When we go out for walks, DH and I usually each take a bottle with us.  We keep our hands free by using these water bottle cozies I came up with.  I think they are cute, and I’ve given several away to people I know who walk a lot as well.  They would make great Christmas gifts!

The pattern is written to fit a standard 16.9 oz. bottle of water, though you could easily adjust the pattern to fit other size bottles.  The one shown here was made using worsted weight yarn and a size G crochet hook.  Here’s how it’s done:

Ch 6; sl st into first ch to form ring.

R1:  Ch 2; working in ring, dc 10; sl st into ch at beginning of round.

R2:  Ch 2; dc 2 in each dc around (20 st); sl st into ch at beginning of round.

R3:  Ch 2; *dc in next dc, dc 2 in next dc* around (30 st); sl st into ch at beginning of round.

R4:  Ch 1; working only in back loops, sc in each dc around (30 st); sl st into ch at beginning of round.

R5:  Ch 3; tr in each sc around (30 st); sl st into ch at beginning of round.

R6:  Ch 1; hdc in each tr around (30 st); sl st into ch at beginning of round.

R7-13:  Ch 2; dc in each stitch around (30 st); sl st into ch at beginning of round.

R14:  Ch 1; hdc in each dc around (30 st); sl st into ch at beginning of round.  Fasten off and weave in ends; change colors.

R15:  Sl st new color into end of last round; ch 3.  Tr in each hdc around (30 st); sl st into ch at beginning of round.  Fasten off an weave in ends.  Change back to the first color.

R16:  Sl st into end of last round; ch 2.  Hdc in each tr around (30 st); sl st into ch at beginning of round.

R17-18:  Ch 2; dc in each st around (30 st); sl st into ch at beginning of round.

R19:  Ch 2; dc in each dc around (30 st); turn.

R20:  *Sk 1 dc; dc in next 4 dc* around (24 st); turn.

R21:  *Sk 1 dc; dc in next 3 dc* around (18 st); turn.

R22:  Ch 3; Tr in each dc around (18 st).  Fasten off and weave in ends.

To make the drawstring handle using the 2nd color, ch 200; turn and sc to end of ch.  Fasten off and weave in ends.  Weave the string through the spaces between the top row of tr to attach, leaving the slit on the back side of the cozy open for easy insertion and removal of bottles.  Tie the ends of the string into a bow.
