crawfish traps

We’ve been talking about it for a few years, but this year we are finally doing it: trapping crawfish! It’s like a free lobster dinner – how can you go wrong with that! The Mister ordered three traps from Amazon.com to start with (we plan to make more later) and they arrived today. They were only $10 each so they really didn’t cost a whole lot more than the materials and time to make our own, and they even gave us an idea to try for a DIY trap design. Now we just need the weather to thaw out a wee bit so we have easier access to the creeks and rivers where we hope to harvest a feast!

As an added bonus, this is also environmentally friendly. Our local waterways are being overrun by an invasive species called the Rusty Crayfish, and the best way to fight an invasive species is to try to remove as many as possible from the environment. Why can’t every invasive species be so delicious?
