I received these complimentary products from Mary Kay cosmetics from Influenster for testing and review purposes. All opinions are 100% my own.
You may not know it, but I have terribly, horribly difficult skin. For about the last decade I have been dealing with a condition called cystic acne. It’s pretty much the worst kind of acne there is – the kind that makes you look so monstrous that small children scream and cower in fear. In more recent years I’ve managed to get it under control, through a rigorous routine of diet and cleansers, though it does sometimes rear its ugly head again.
Understandably, then, the thought of wearing makeup terrified me for many years. I could feel my pores clog just thinking about it. Now that my skin has cleared up I want to start wearing makeup once again, but I need to make sure I use brands and products that won’t make my acne flare up. I’ve always heard wonderful things about Mary Kay, so I was very excited to get the chance to try their products!
I was asked to create a sun-kissed makeup look using the products they sent. And I love, love, LOVE the color palette they sent! Apricot and coral are totally something I would have bought for myself.
I was very, very happy with the makeup. It didn’t irritate my skin at all! And it’s a really nice feeling to have a bag full of makeup that I’m not afraid to use. See my full makeup look in the video below!
As I mention in the video, the only products in the collection that I didn’t use were the eyeliner and the blush.
I did give they eyeliner a try and was super impressed with how easy it was to apply – I usually have big problems with getting eyeliner to go on evenly – but when I tried it, it did make my blepharitis flare up. That is a condition where my eyelash follicles get clogged and cause swelling and irritation along my lash line. It’s not a very pleasant condition and it’s really easy to accidentally irritate it, so I would say this was definitely a case of “it’s not you, it’s me”. It’s a great product, I just have jenky eyes!
I skipped the blush because I have a lot of redness due to my long-term acne issues, and I find that wearing blush brings out the redness. But happily, they also sent bronzer, which is what I prefer to use in place of blush! It gives me a way to add a little bit of color to my cheeks without making me look like I have a sunburn.
Never fear, though – those unused products have found a home with a makeup-loving friend so they will not be going to waste!
Overall I am extremely satisfied with the makeup I received from Mary Kay, and several of the elements they sent are now a part of my daily makeup routine, including the translucent powder. And the Mango Tango lip gloss has become a favorite in my collection of lip colors!
Thank you, Mary Kay and Influenster! You’ve made me and my face very happy!
